Every great journey starts with great people, and ours began 25 years ago.

As part of our 25th anniversary celebrations, we’re interviewing some of the people who helped shape Gameloft into what it is today.

Today we're talking to Adrian Marchidan, Gameloft Saigon's art director, about how his creativity and art shaped his path, what inspired him at 25, and why he decided to join the gaming industry.

Where were you at 25?

At 25 I was in Bucharest, Romania, working as a concept artist at an outsource studio for games. It was the first job where I had the opportunity to work on bigger titles, like Trion's Rift and Tron: Evolution by Disney.

What were you playing at 25?

At that time, I think I was mostly playing RPG games like Nox, Morrowind, Fallout 2, and Diablo 2. I like RPG games because they allow you to get more involved in the game's storyline, making the whole experience more memorable.

Why gaming?

I chose to work in this industry because I'm a very lively and creative person, and this line of work keeps my mind young.

Most important advice?

I think the best advice I can give to an aspiring concept artist is to be as observant as possible. If you are observant of your environment and the things happening around you, you will have a lot of content in your mind to use in the art you create, and you will never run out of ideas. Being observant also has benefits in everyday life.

Your inspirations?

My inspiration comes from playing games and being observant. I like to examine the game worlds that others have made.

Favorite genre?

Favorite genre is realistic sci-fi. At heart, I am a concept designer, and I like to see and understand the designs of other artists.

Favorite game?

Favorite game is Fallout 2, but I enjoy playing the whole series or other good RPG games.
